Season 2 - Episode 4: Art Of The Doula

by Rachel Maietta & Sivanne Lieber | The Wholehearted Joyous Podcast

Doulas can be so inspiring that we wanted to devote an entire episode to them. Many people have heard about doulas but not many people know about what a doula REALLY does, what supports they provide, and just how significant they can be for not only your pre and post partum experience, but as a way to set you up for parenthood with a whole lot of nourishing!

Today we’ll hear from two amazing souls, two doulas supporting families prenatally all the way to postpartum. Kelly from the Trillium Learning Center and Homegrown Families will share the details of what a doula does, who they support, how they support, and when they support families. Next, we’ll be connecting with Nikita, who started Sistas Caring 4 Sistas, which is an incredible non-profit, community-based doula program founded by women of color for women of color who could benefit from this evidence-based form of birth support. She will tell us about how doulas are part of a larger social justice movement, working in partnership with MAHEC and Mothering Asheville, committed to eliminating health disparities for mothers and infants.
